A1. AWS core services
Outcome: you can design and build a secure, resilient AWS environment and defend what it costs.
Skills: IAM users, roles and policies, IAM Identity Center, AWS Organizations and service control policies, VPC design (subnets, route tables, internet and NAT gateways, security groups, network ACLs, VPC endpoints), EC2, Auto Scaling and Elastic Load Balancing, S3 storage classes and lifecycle rules, EBS and EFS, RDS and DynamoDB, Route 53 and CloudFront, KMS encryption, CloudWatch and CloudTrail, Multi-AZ and backup design, the AWS Pricing Calculator and Cost Explorer.
Labs
- Account safety: put MFA on the root user and stop using it. Create your admin user in IAM Identity Center, set a budget alert and turn on CloudTrail.
- Network: build a VPC across two Availability Zones with public and private subnets, a NAT gateway and security groups. Use the addressing rules from S1. The NAT gateway is billed by the hour, so delete it when the lab is done.
- Compute: run a web tier on EC2 behind an Application Load Balancer in an Auto Scaling group. Stop one instance and watch it get replaced.
- Data: put the database on RDS with Multi-AZ and the files in S3 with versioning, encryption and a lifecycle rule. Delete an object, then get it back.
- Your S9 design on AWS: build the three-tier design from S9. Price it in the AWS Pricing Calculator and compare it with your S9 estimate.
- Watch and trace: set a CloudWatch alarm on the load balancer. A partner changes a security group; find the change and who made it in CloudTrail.
- Tear down: delete everything, then check Cost Explorer and the billing page show nothing still running.
Prove it: an architecture document for the lab 5 build: diagram, addressing table, IAM design, cost estimate, what happens when an Availability Zone fails, and the teardown check.
